This is one of my favorite Gail Carson Levine Books, which is surprisinflg because I usually prefer more of her fantasy work and this one is only fiction. The plot is amazing and throughout the story you find yourself going through the same things that Dave is. The author makes you long to be there, fighting along side him, as he struggles at the HHB and dances with Irma Lee. I would recommend this book for all tweens and teens, but the adults might like it too.

It was really good! Great teen book!
A fabulous story. I loved it and I loved the characters
My 11-year-old son and I loved, loved this book. Sometimes, after he would fall asleep, I would read ahead because I could not put this book down. The suspense is perfect for young boys, as is the historic references to music, religion and the way of life during the beginning of the 20th century. I can't say enough about this book and I wish the author had written more books in this genre for just boys.
This book is a great novel to teach. It lends itself to partnering lessons about the Harlem Renaiisance, jazz musicians, writers, and so much more. I love teaching this novel to seventh graders who think of Harlem only as a ghetto and who know nothing about our jazz history or African-American intelligentsia and cultural icons.
This book may have various interruptions like "I dont-" "But-" "MOZEl"Bandit squaked.But other than that it has a great main character Dave who is super brave an someone who does not care bout much eccept his papa.Also GREAT VOCABULARY FROM THE 20s!!!!Like swell,goly,gee and boy chik how could I forget that.Dave At Night is a exellent book i will rate it a 4 out of 5.
